In October 2023 the Spanish Air and Space Force, through its Acquisitions Directorate of the Logistics Support Command, awarded CLIA Sistemas the supply of a MAAS/BAK12 bidirectional cable mobile braking system, manufactured by ATECH Inc, SCAMA subsidiary company in the United States of America. The execution of this contract was completed in November 2024.
"MAAS" is an acronym of the American Air Force for "Mobile Aircraft Arresting System". It is basically a standard BAK-12 braking system converted to mobile through its installation on a MAAS trailer.
Each trailer contains the hydraulic tools and hardware needed for installation and uninstallation of the system. The ability to be installed in multiple configurations on several different surface types makes the MAAS a flexible system.
